Financial Management in Cultural Organizations
Build your confidence in planning a business case for your work
November 1- 6, 2010 at the University of Victoria
Your creative work in museums and other heritage and arts organizations is reliant on strong financial and organizational foundations. This valuable and timely course builds the knowledge, skills, and confidence that you bring to business and financial planning, management, and performance assessment in your specialized area of cultural sector practice and strengthens your confidence in advocating for support and funding.
Instructor: Pauline Thompson is a Chartered Accountant, with degrees in economics and history, and a cultural management consultant with extensive financial and administrative management experience. She has demonstrated strengths in strategic leadership, strong project management skills and proven expertise in system design and training, and revenue diversification. Ms. Thompson focuses on the challenges facing cultural organizations, institutions and communities with limited financial and human resources. Her recent work includes needs assessment, governance, operational reviews, cultural planning, policy development and mentoring for museums, theatre companies, historic sites, municipalities, government agencies, and professional associations. She sits on several boards and is currently president of the Filberg Heritage Lodge and Park Association on Vancouver Island.

Registration Deadline: October 4, 2010, late registrations are accepted if space permits. You can take this course on a non-credit basis, or complete it for Diploma, unassigned, or transfer credit. If you aren't currently admitted to UVic for credit, we can advise you on the best approach, depending upon your interests and needs.
Fee: $669 CAD, including a $75 materials fee (credit and non-credit participation options). A CAD$175 registration deposit is required with your registration. The tuition balance of $494 is due on or before the first day of the course.
