Trail Historical Society Launches New Website - Historic Trail Smoke Eaters

The Trail Historical Society is proud to announce the launch of a new website devoted to the history of the Trail Smoke Eaters Senior Hockey Team. Titled the 'Historic Trail Smoke Eaters', the site is now live at www.HistoricSmokeEaters.ca<http://www.HistoricSmokeEaters.ca>.

"This website has been developed by the Society over the past year and we are very pleased with how it has turned out," said Society President Jamie Forbes. "We hope visitors to the site will enjoy reading about the history of the Smoke Eaters, viewing the video clips, and will take the time to visit the Society's e-store to purchase vintage Trail Smoke Eater memorabilia."

The website describes the history of the Trail Smoke Eaters from the early days of hockey in Trail before World War I to its demise in 1987. The site includes many photos of the team and video clips. The clips are up to two minutes long and show the welcome home parade for the 1938 Allan Cup Champions, highlights of the final game of the 1961 World Hockey Championships between the Trail Smoke Eaters and the Soviet Union, and an interview with former Smokie goaltender Reno Zanier, speaking on the hockey skills of renowned team member, Mike Buckna.

The site is very attractive, navigable and easy to read. It contains a link to the Historical Society's website, www.trailhistory.com<http://www.trailhistory.com>, where you can purchase books on the City's history, a book and DVD on the history of hockey in Trail, and a variety of vintage Trail Smoke Eater memorabilia.

"We have attempted to make the website as user friendly as possible," stated Sarah Benson, the Society's Museum and Archives Director, "so visitors can enjoy learning more about the legendary Trail Smoke Eaters and Trail hockey trivia in the 'Overtime' page of the site."

Forbes stated: "The website is a tribute to the perseverance and dedication of all the players on the many champion Smoke Eater teams and is our way of acknowledging the contribution they have made to our community's history."

The development of the website was supported with funding from the Columbia Basin Trust and the Columbia Kootenay Cultural Alliance.
