MARITIME MUSEUM OF BC STATEMENT ON THE CPR STEAMSHIP TERMINAL PROCESS

The Maritime Museum of BC is committed to pursuing the opportunity represented by the CPR Steamship Terminal renovation.

"This site is the place where the Museum will thrive and succeed, and be able to best contribute to the community and the tourism industry" said museum spokesperson Jamie Webb. "We cannot lose sight of this amazing community opportunity. Another chance like this may not come along for another 25 years."

More than 600 people came out for the museum's public consultation meeting on the project this spring. These are unprecedented numbers for a public meeting in Victoria. The museum's combination of traditional and high tech exhibits, children's activities, and research facilities coupled with the award winning RedFish BlueFish café greatly appealed to all who examined the plans.

The museum will now seek to further engage the Province of BC, specifically the Ministry of Community, Sport and Cultural Development. "We have had initial discussions with Min. Ida Chong" says Webb "but now is clearly the time for community leadership at all levels to assist in moving this opportunity forward."

The Maritime Museum of BC has been in operation in our community for more than 55 years. The museum is a catalyst for community events and contributed to the establishment of both the Classic Boat Festival and the Victoria Tall Ships Festival.
