[BCMA] You're Invited! GO Party! 5: Elegance & Eloquence + Gabor Szilasi opening reception

The Kelowna Art Gallery invites you to our 5th GO Party!  fundraiser on Friday, May 13, 2011, 7-10 pm, entitled Elegance & Eloquence. Show off your 1960s style and sophistication by emulating the fashion of Hollywood icons such as Warren Beatty, Elizabeth Taylor, Cary Grant, and the incomparable Audrey Hepburn.

The evening will feature door prizes, a silent auction, complimentary refreshments, a cash bar, and musical entertainment by jazz singer Anna Jacyszyn. A temporary photo studio will also be installed for the evening, where you can have your 'elegance' portraits professionally taken for a donation to the Gallery.

This special event celebrates the opening of Gabor Szilasi: The Eloquence of the Everyday, an exhibition on view at the Kelowna Art Gallery May 14 through August 14, 2011. This touring exhibition is organized by the Musée d'art de Joliette and the Canadian Museum of Contemporary Photography. It is a remarkable selection of photographs of townscapes, cityscapes, architectural views, and portraiture from the past five decades, taken in three locations: Hungary, rural Quebec, and Montreal. 

 

Prior to the opening reception and fundraiser, we invite the public to join us from 6-6:30 pm for a free guided tour in the gallery and discussion of the works with the artist, Gabor Szilasi, along with guest curator David Harris. Dr. Harris is a specialist in nineteenth-century and contemporary architectural and landscape photography who lives in Montreal. He is a Professor with the School of Image Arts at Ryerson University in Toronto.
