The Maritime Museum of BC sails into the
famous Fairmont Empress Hotel!

Well, not literally, but the Maritime Museum of BC has placed two key CPR Steamship models in the lobby and on the second floor of the stunning Fairmont Empress hotel. According to Cuyler Page, MMBC Curator, this represents an "ideal partnership". The MMBC is proud to contribute pieces of its collection that have the ability to enhance and connect visitors to Victoria with a tangible piece of Vancouver Island's maritime history.

Martin Leclerc, GM at The Fairmont Empress, agrees. "We are very pleased with this new partnership. We have such a wealth of opportunities right here, before our eyes and our two organizations can leverage one another so well and elevate the destination."

The large ship model found in the lobby is of the stately Empress of Canada. This magnificent vessel provided an experience in luxury for which CPR Steamships were famous for. Her mission was to transport cargo and carry passengers between China and Canada.

The second model, located in the mezzanine elevator lobby, is a marvelous replica of the Princess Marguerite. Another grand vessel, the sumptuous Princess Marguerite carried their majesties King George VI and Queen Victoria to the Empress Hotel in May of 1939.

Canadian Pacific, in its heyday, fashioned a complete system of travel and accommodation like no other. The consistency of style, class and comfort all the way from the beginning aboard a CP steamship, train, or a stay in one of their opulent hotels, such as The Fairmont Empress, was second to none.

Both models are on display at The Fairmont Empress. To experience other rich maritime artefacts, visit the Maritime Museum of BC, home to British Columbia's stories of the sea.
