Job title: Education Assistant

Duration: 37.5 hours per week, Monday - Friday for 12 weeks

Start and end dates: June 6, 2011 - August 26, 2011

Wage: $14.00/hour

 

The Jewish Museum & Archives of British Columbia is seeking an Education
Assistant to assist in the development of The British Columbia Jewish
History Interactive Online Timeline project.  The primary duties for
this project, under the supervision of the Education Coordinator,
include writing and researching historical content for use in an
interactive website. The timeline project will feature recently
digitized photographs and articles from the Jewish Western Bulletin
<http://www.multiculturalcanada.ca/jwb>  - the British Columbia Jewish
community's newspaper since 1930 - and the Nemetz Jewish Community
Archives <http://www.jewishmuseum.ca/Collections> . 

 

Other duties may include conducting research for upcoming exhibits,
creating resource materials for public and school programs, adding
content to the website, manipulating photographs using Adobe Photoshop,
and assisting participants during summer historic walking tour programs.

 

Requirements:

*        Must have excellent English communication skills, both written
and verbal.

*        Must have a demonstrated interest in working in a heritage
based environment, shown through academic, volunteer or previous work
experience.

*        Must have basic computer skills and be comfortable working in a
computer based environment.  Experience or skills in Adobe Photoshop and
HTML will be considered an asset.

*        Must be a full-time student (as defined by his or her
educational institution) in the semester preceding the YCW job or must
intend to return to full-time studies in the semester following the YCW
job.

*        Must be legally entitled to work in Canada and be registered
with the Young Canada Works Program, administered by the Canadian
Information Network (CHIN).

*        Must be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident or have refugee
status in Canada.

*        Must be registered in the YCW candidate inventory.

*        Must be between 16 and 30 years of age at start of employment.

 

This position is funded through the Young Canada Works

the Canadian Museums Association (CMA).  Candidates must meet the
eligibility requirements to be considered for this position. The Jewish
