Waterfront Productions Program 2011
North Vancouver Museum & Archives Commission
2 Temporary Full-Time Positions: Theatrical Interpreters

The North Vancouver Museum and Archives Commission will present tours led by costumed interpreters at the Burrard Dry Dock Pier, Shipbuilders' Plaza, and around the North Vancouver community during the summer of 2011.  This season will build upon previous successful initiatives using costumed interpretation to bring historic characters to life.

Each Theatrical Interpreter will be responsible for researching, writing, presenting and promoting the history of the old shipyard (Burrard Dry Dock), the modern port, and early mountaineers to North Vancouverites and visitors.  Primary activities include costumed interpretation of the sites, historic characters and the presentation of interpretation programs for children.

Specific Duties:
*         to present and write costumed interpretation (Waterfront Productions) from and around the historic  North Vancouver waterfront, the newly-opened Shipbuilders' Plaza, and Lynn Canyon Park;
*         to assist with the children's programs Waterfront Capers for Kids and The Forest and the City;
*         to research and organize the production of necessary historical costumes or "props";
*         to promote the programs;
*         to establish working relationships with community partners;
*         to compile a reference binder of the summer's activities for use by future theatrical interpreters; and
*         to compile a resource binder of media releases related to this program.

Preferred Skills and Knowledge:
*         fluent in English; able to understand and interact with the public, with some knowledge of French;
*         experience presenting and performing before live audiences;
*         experience researching, writing and organizing presentations;
*         demonstrated interest in history;
*         demonstrated experience providing excellent customer service;
*         outgoing personality and high energy, creativity;
*         basic computer skills (keyboarding, MS Office and internet);
*         valid BC Class 5 Driver's Licence; and
*         strong organizational abilities and communication skills.

Work Sites:  209 West 4th Street (Presentation House), The Pier (at the foot of Lonsdale Avenue), the Community History Centre (3203 Institute Road), all in North Vancouver.
Term of Employment:  June 14 to September 4, 2011
Work Week:  35 hours (9:00am to 5:00pm), including weekends and statutory holidays.  Work days will vary.
Wages:   $17.83 per hour. Vacation pay will be paid at end of contract.
