"An Exploration into Canadian Heritage and Traditions"

Showcased at the 9th Annual Richmond Delta Heritage Fair - May 7, 2011

Delta, BC - Last school year more than 150,000 students across Canada worked
on projects or participated in a Regional Heritage Fair. But what is a
Heritage Fair you may ask?

The Heritage Fair is a bilingual educational initiative to encourage
students to explore Canadian history and heritage in a dynamic, hands-on
learning environment and then present the results at a public exhibition -
the 9th Annual Richmond Delta Regional Heritage Fair.

Students from Devon Gardens Elementary, Ladner Elementary, McClosky
Elementary, South Park Elementary, and Delta Secondary School have presented
their projects to their school bodies and now are representing Delta at the
Regional Heritage Fair.

The Fair actively involves students, schools, heritage organizations,
businesses and community groups in a contemporary celebration of discovered
traditions and events. Through the media of their choice, students display
their stories about local, provincial or national heroes, legends,
milestones and achievements, and present them to the judges and the general
public.

Joined by students, the Fair's Delta judges include: Heather King
(Councillor), Faye O'Niel (Aboriginal Support Worker), Guillermo Bustos
(Educational Consultant), Laura Dixon (Delta School Trustee), Mark Sakai
(Executive Director, Delta Museum & Archives), Gwen Szychter (Local
Historian and Author) and Val Windsor (Delta Heritage Commission).

This community-based celebration of Canadian heritage will have a lasting
impact on all who attend. Come and view history through the eyes of our
youth on Saturday, May 7 from 10am - 3pm at the Richmond Cultural Centre,
where you can visit 74 student project displays and take part in fun
activities for the whole family. Admission is free!
