A Moth in Spring film screening and Q&A with Gu Xiong
Tuesday, May 17, 10 am
In this very personal documentary, director Yu Gu explores themes of exile, art, and family arising from the departure of her father, well-known multimedia artist Gu Xiong, from China during the 1989 Student Democracy Movement. Through A Moth in Spring (Light Rain Films; 26 min) Yu discovers that the desire for freedom of speech is a force uniting three generations of her family, from China to North America. After the film, Gu Xiong, who now lives in Vancouver, and is Associate Professor in the UBC Dept of Art History, Visual Art, and Theory, will answer audience questions.
