TALES FROM THE DEEP AT MMBC
Join Canadian submariners, our "living artefacts" as they recount their underwater adventures Saturday afternoon, April 30th, at the Maritime Museum in Bastion Square. Artefacts from the submarine HMCS GRILSE including a unique scrapbook will be on display. Anyone wanting to hear firsthand about life in "the silent service" is welcome to drop in for a chat with stalwart submariners between 2 and 4 pm. The GRILSE served as the Royal Canadian Navy's West Cost submarine from 1961 to 1969 and was followed by RAINBOW (1968-74). Canada's submariners are holding a reunion in Victoria this weekend to mark the 50th anniversary of GRILSE's commissioning with veterans coming from as far as Nova Scotia. Artefacts that have been held by the Maritime Museum will be going to the Submarine Support Facility in the Dockyard. The current West Cost submarine, HMCS VICTORIA is back in the water after an extensive docking.
