Kids discover the Fraser River this September with your help!

New Westminster, BC - Are you passionate about the Fraser River? Do you
enjoy working with children? Do you have a few hours to spare? Then the
Fraser River Discovery Centre would love to hear from you!

Educating students about the history, environment, culture and industry of
the Fraser River is at the heart of the Fraser River Discovery Centre. By
teaching young people about the incredibly diverse watershed, the Discovery
Centre encourages students to care about the Fraser River and gives them the
tools to protect the basin and its valuable resources.

This September, the Fraser River Discovery Centre is looking for volunteers
called "Docents" to lead our school programs during the upcoming school
year. "By expanding the Docent team the Discovery Centre will be able to
offer more school programs while keeping the group sizes small", says
Shannon King, Education Coordinator for the Discovery Centre.

The Discovery Centre offers five different school programs on Wednesdays,
Thursdays and Fridays throughout the year. Through a variety of hands-on
activities, such as mock archaeological excavations, science experiments and
games children learn about the River's environment, social and economic
importance to the province and its people.

King is looking for outgoing individuals who are keen to discover new things
about the Fraser River and are able to give a few hours. Docents work
closely in teams, so strong communication and time management skills are
required. Experience working with children is an asset, but not necessary
as full training is provided.

People who are interested to know more are invited to attend an information
meeting on Thursday, September 8th from 1:00 to 2:30pm. Training sessions
will be held throughout September. People interested in learning more about
volunteering at the Discovery Centre are encouraged to register for this
session by September 7th at 604-521-8401 or info at fraserrivediscovery.org.

Interested but can't attend the meeting - call Shannon at 604-521-8401 x 108
or visit our website at http://www.fraserriverdiscovery.org/volunteer.htm
for a complete volunteer role description or to download a volunteer
application form.

River. It is located at 788 Quayside Drive, New Westminster. Until September
