Hello Members, Subscribers & Stakeholders;

BC Museums Association's continuing Regional Workshop Series program resumes
with two concurrent 2-day, Canadian Conservation Institute (CCI) workshops,
hosted by The Reach Gallery Museum Abbotsford <http://thereach.ca/> on
September 30-October 1, 2011 in Abbotsford, BC.

*Emergency & Disaster Preparedness for Cultural Institutions* (see *attached
* Registration FormA, with workshop synopsis, learning outcomes, units to be
covered, links to instructor bios), was requested by 20 Institutional
Members in response to BCMA's annual Call for CCI Workshop hosts last
January, and a special 1-day version will also be offered as a
Pre-Conference Workshop at Conference 2011 in Cranbrook, BC on October 3rd,
due to this workshop's popularity and importance.

*Target Audience*: Employees in cultural institutions involved in emergency
preparedness, including curators, conservators, managers of records,
collections, or facilities, archivists, librarians, registrars, volunteers,
security & maintenance personnel.

Maximum of 20 participants on a "first come" basis. Members & non-members

*Digital Photodocumentation of Museum Objects* (see *attached* Registration
FormB, with synopsis, learning outcomes, units to be covered, links to
instructor bios), will be offered concurrently at The Reach, and will be
highly beneficial to those institutions currently preparing online content
or exhibits, and those developing online heritage tourism content for
BCMA/HTA's "Time Travel BC" project, or will be in the near future.

This workshop explains how to digitally photograph cultural objects to meet
conservation & documentation requirements.
It will cover:
- Camera types & their characteristics
- Light sources & accessories
- Determining the proper lighting setup
- Subject matter & exposure determination

Although not a mandatory purchase, *Lighting Methods for Photographing
Museum Objects*<https://www.cci-icc.gc.ca/bookstore/viewCategory-e.cfm?id=20&thispubid=530>would
be a valuable reference tool for this course. This practical
spiral-bound guide demonstrates how lighting can shape and highlight the
features of an object in a photograph. It includes 15 lighting techniques,
all of which are clearly explained and illustrated with colour photos.
Whether you are a professional photographer, curator, heritage professional,
or student, this book will assist you in the creation of effective
photographic documentation.
*Target Audience*: Conservators, conservation scientists, registrars, and
other conservation and museum professionals seeking an introduction to or
review of photographic equipment and methods.

Maximum of 12 participants on a "first come" basis. Members & non-members
welcome.
Deadline for registration: *September 15, 2011.*

Registration for either workshop includes breaks and free admission to "Live
@ The Reach" on Friday, September 30th, featuring *Horizon*, a Fraser Valley
band that plays swing, blues, rockin’ soul and R&B and are described as
"easy listening, toe tappin’, outright get on the floor and boogie fun."

*Accommodation*: *Best Western Plus Regency Inn & Conference Centre* is
offering those participants requiring an overnight stay a Special Rate of
$89.99 (+taxes), including a FREE hot breakfast. Booking & location details
