(BURNABY, BC) - The Burnaby Art Gallery is pleased to introduce the photographs of Byron Hansen as part of our Art in the Libraries program on exhibit August 16 - November 6, 2011 at the Bob Prittie Metrotown and McGill Libraries where viewers may enjoy the beauty of Burnaby's landscapes through the lens of this nature photographer and environmental artist. The Burnaby Art Gallery provides access to and interpretation of contemporary visual art in alternative venues throughout the City of Burnaby. Themed exhibitions created from the permanent collection and emerging artists' works comprise the Burnaby public library exhibit program. The McGill and Bob Prittie libraries are the main branches where exhibitions occur. Exhibitions are traditionally between 35 and 60 days in length and reference topical subjects within the art world and media related news and information. All exhibits are curated and organized by the Burnaby Art Gallery.

About the Artist
Since coming to Burnaby in 2001 Byron has participated in many group shows in Burnaby, Vancouver, North Vancouver, Coquitlam and Port Coquitlam. He has also had three solo exhibitions at the Burnaby Art Gallery, the Glass Onion in Vancouver and the District Office in North Vancouver. In addition Byron worked as "Artist in Residence" for the Vancouver Parks Board in Strathcona Community Centre in Vancouver. He was hired by the Vancouver Public Library to create public art in the Strathcona Branch Library. This work was undertaken with the help of an ESL class sponsored by the library. Byron also created a sculpture for the "World Peace Conference" at UBC, with the help of grade six and seven students from Strathcona Community School. These same students created the "Mannequin" project which won the "People's Choice Award" in an exhibition in MetroTown shopping Mall in Burnaby. Working with the students at Porter School in Coquitlam, Byron created "DINO" the dinosaur, a three meter long sculpture created from used electrical parts, as part of "Porter Unplugged." In 2007, Byron won the "Burnaby Environmental Award in Communications" for his community work with Seniors and Children, emphasizing the use of recycled and found materials in creating art. In 2010, Byron received the "Burnaby Senior of Distinction Award" in the Art category. This award was a private sector award, sponsored by AGE CARE and the BURNABY NEWSLEADER.
