September 17 - 18, 2011

Nautical Archaeology Society (NAS) Level 1
A Nautical Archaeology Society (NAS) Level 1 course is being offered in
Sidney BC (Victoria) at the Greenglade Recreation Center. Participants
must have completed NAS Introduction to participate. Lectures include:
search & survey techniques, documenting shipwrecks, artifact
conservation, 3-D survey techniques, project organization and a case
study. The practical session will involve surveying the reef balls
opposite the Sidney fishing pier and plotting up the results. Cost:

A Nautical Archaeology Society combination Introduction and NAS 1 course
is being offered in Seattle, Washington. This course combines 3 days of
instruction into 2 long days after which you will receive a Certificate
in Foreshore and Underwater Archaeology. Lectures include: principles of
underwater archaeology, site types, law, basic survey techniques search
& survey techniques, shipwreck recording, artifact conservation, 3-D
survey techniques and project organization. There will be two practical
sessions. The first will includes hands-on surveying experience in the
pool and plotting up the results. The second will involve surveying
artifacts in the Edmonds diving park and plotting up the results. Cost:

combines 3 days of instruction into 2 long days after which you will
receive a Certificate in Foreshore and Underwater Archaeology. Lectures
include: principles of underwater archaeology, site types, law, basic
survey techniques, search & survey techniques, shipwreck recording,
artifact conservation, 3-D survey techniques and project organization.
There will be two practical sessions. The first will includes hands-on
surveying experience in the pool and plotting up the results. The second
will involve surveying artifacts on the bottom in Barnet Marine Park and
plotting up the results. Cost: UASBC Members $225.00. To register
