FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Burnaby Lyric Opera's Don Giovanni at the Shadbolt Centre for the Arts
BURNABY, BC -  Mozart's musical masterpiece comes to life again with Burnaby Lyric Opera's production team and the best of B.C.'s operatic talent.  Don Giovanni is a young man living a life of seducing one woman after another until he encounters defeat in three women.  The first is Donna Elvira whom he has deserted.  The second is Donna Anna; she must postpone her marriage to Don Ottavio after Don Giovanni tries to seduce her and kills her father when he comes to her aid.  The third is Zerlina whom he tries to lure from her fiancé, the peasant Masetto.  All vow vengeance on Don Giovanni and his harassed servant Leporello.  Will they succeed?  Will Don Giovanni ever repent or will he be punished for his sins?

Dedicated to bringing British Columbia's top young professional opera singers to the stage in leading roles, Burnaby Lyric Opera gives you the rare opportunity to say you saw them here first and the talented individuals in Don Giovanni are no exception. The ensemble features baritone, Willy Miles-Grenzberg making his debut with BLO as Don Giovanni.  He has performed with Vancouver Opera, Canadian Opera Company and Opera East in such roles as; Sciarrone in Tosca, Paris in Romeo and Juliet, Schaunard in La Boheme and Germont in La Traviata.  Soprano, Arianna Sovernigo, returns to BLO as Donna Anna.  Sovernigo last performed with BLO as Suzanna in Il nozze di Figaro and has since added the roles of Donna Elvira in Don Giovanni, Frasquita and, Micäela in Carmen and Pamina in Die Zauberflöte with Manitoba Opera, Tuscia Opera, The Opera Project and Vancouver Concert Opera. Also returning to BLO is bass-baritone, Michael MacKinnon in the role of Leporello.  Michael performed the role of Don Alfonso in BLO's Cosi fan tutte last season.  Other roles include McDougall in Louis Riel, Don Pedro in Béatrice et Bénédict, and The Botanist in Jack Pine with Banff Arts Centre, Opera Nuova, UBC Opera and Vancouver Opera Touring.  Rounding out the Ensemble cast and making their debut with BLO are, soprano Melanie Krueger in the role of Donna Elvira, tenor Andrzej Jeziorski as Don Ottavio, soprano Chloé Hurst as Zerlina, baritone Jason Cook as Masetto and bass Jeremy Griffin in the role of Commendatore.

Don Giovanni  will be directed by Matthew Bissett, resident Stage Director of Burnaby Lyric Opera's  Cinderella, The Merry Widow, The Marriage of Figaro, Italian Girl in Algiers, Die Fledermaus , The Barber of Seville and Cosi fan tutte.  Music direction is by resident Music Director, David Boothroyd the acclaimed and talented conductor of BLO's The Marriage of Figaro , The Merry Widow ,The Italian Girl in Algiers, Die Fledermaus, The Barber of Seville and Cosi fan tutte.
