At Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Classical Chinese Garden


Help us welcome the Year of the RABBIT at the Garden! The Dr. Sun Yat-Sen
Classical Chinese Garden is looking for 1 contract teacher interested in
assisting with education programs during our busy Chinese New Year season
(January 31-February 25 2011, with possibility of more contract work
throughout the year).

The Garden hosts 4 weeks of special educational programs during this busy
time.  Last year, nearly 1500 children attended, mostly Pre-Kindergarten to
Grade 4.  Our programs are very popular and Lower Mainland teachers count on
us to deliver a spectacular experience to their students.

The Education Assistant reports to the Head, Education, Programs and Tours.
This is a 4 week, contract position (3-6 hours/daily), perfect for TOC's,
ECE teachers and others with experience working with young children.  

Duties:
.	Set up program room (tables, chairs, craft activities, props)
.	Meet and greet groups and their teachers
.	Deliver program to groups of children (includes storytelling,
teaching, encouraging children to join in activities, leading crafts, etc).
.	Clean up after the program
.	Maintain a professional and co-operative relationship with visitors,
staff, and volunteers
.	Other duties as required


Qualifications:
.	Experience teaching or delivering programs
.	Experience working with young children a must!
.	Must have excellent communication skills (fluent in English)
.	Team player with strong interpersonal skills; energetic, and
dependable.
.	Ability to represent the Garden with a high degree of
professionalism and enthusiasm
.	Must be presentable and well-groomed.
.	Interest and/or knowledge of Chinese culture and history. (You don't
need to be Chinese and you don't need to be an expert on Chinese
culture.we'll teach you the programs!).


Wage: $14.00/hour, flat fee paid out at end of contract.  Deadline for
application January 19, 2011.
