Fraser River Discovery Centre receives BC Hydro $10,000 Investment - Caring
Company presents corporate investment for social progress.
New Westminster, BC - Fraser River Discovery Centre (FRDC) School Programs
have been awarded an investment of $10,000 from BC Hydro's Community
Investment, Outreach & Education funding program. BC Hydro, designated by
Imagine Canada as a Caring Company for its community investment practices is
making the contribution for a second year, having invested in FRDC's
education programs for the 2009-10 school year.
FRDC's mission is to be recognized as a centre of excellence for stimulating
passion, education and enlightenment about the Fraser River so it can be
sustained for generations to come. FRDC's education programs provide
students with an opportunity to develop a respect for the river's role in
shaping British Columbia's ecological, social and economic diversity.
"BC Hydro, believes in supporting, educating and strengthening individuals
who build a bright sustainable future for British Columbia. Donations and
sponsorships to community based organizations such as the Fraser River
Discovery Centre help us accomplish this goal." explains Jennifer Thompson,
Manager of Community Investment for BC Hydro.
FRDC Executive Director, Catherine Ouellet-Martin recognizes the natural
alignment of both organizations through their commitment to social progress
for a sustainable future. "Our education programs empower students to
develop an understanding of the importance of the River to BC's environment
and economy and to make informed decisions to take personal action for a
sustainable future. We are very pleased to be working with BC Hydro towards
the same goals".
More and more, Corporations like BC Hydro are investing in FRDC's
initiatives as they recognize the importance of FRDC's goal to increase the
public's appreciation of the living, working Fraser River. And with the
continuing financial assistance of those believing the Fraser River deserves
a centre for dialogue and education, the Centre continues to develop and
implement innovative programs, exhibits and events attracting school groups,
academics, tourists and other individuals from all over the Lower Mainland.
"The Fraser River Discovery Centre's continuing growth could not be possible
without corporate funders, government agencies and individual contributions.
Knowing that the strength of any successful community based organization is
to have many supporters, we are grateful to Corporations who value the
importance of the Fraser River's unique story and heritage as much as we
do." concludes Ouellet-Martin.
Other funders of FRDC's educational programs include BC Gaming Commission,
Port Metro Vancouver, RBC Foundation, the Norlien Foundation, the McLean
Foundation, and TD Friends of the Environment Foundation.
The Fraser River Discovery Centre is an interpretive centre connecting
communities in discovery and celebration of the living, working Fraser
River. It is located at 788 Quayside Drive, New Westminster. The Discovery
Centre is open Wednesday to Saturday 10am to 4pm. Admission is by donation
for the exhibit galleries.
