Carin Covin, a visual artist based in the North Okanagan, presents a 
lecture that articulates a territory between studio practice and art 
history, which will demonstrate how critical and cultural theories are 
continually re-purposed and updated by visual artists. The talk will 
show how artists are engaging with current issues of aesthetics and how 
they present ideas through pluralistic productions of meaning.

Light refreshments will be served. We are also pleased to announce we 
will now also offer "a glass of vino" or beer for purchase at the 
lecture. Free and open to the public.

will deliver a lecture and presentation as he discusses the evolution of 
his work over the past 10-15 years. In his words, in his work he is 
quoting "...directly from the period of high modernism's collapse into 
the visual detritus of suburbia, while creating a dynamic and 
chromatically dissonant backdrop for the painting. The result is work 
that floats uneasily between a kind of feigned nostalgia and a somewhat 
disorienting opticality capable of destabilizing the reading of the 
work." Lively discussion will follow his presentation; this is a rare 
opportunity to be "up close and personal" with one of Canada's leading 
contemporary artists.
