>From Buddha to Shogun to Astroboy: A History of Japanese Art
SHAWNE MACINTYRE, MA
As an island nation, Japan received influxes of cultural inspiration over
the centuries, reinventing ideas and processes to make them uniquely her
own. This course surveys two millennia of Japanese art and culture,
including the early pottery of the Jomon people; Buddhist sculpture,
architecture and painting; the spectacular ceramics and woodblock prints of
the Edo era; and finally, the globally-consumed manga novels and anime
graphics of contemporary culture.
SHAWNE MACINTYRE has a Master of Museum Studies degree from the
University of Toronto and is a freelance writer, arts educator and accredited
appraiser.
