The Old-Fashioned Tea is back at the Creston Museum - but this year, there's
a special twist.

 

Creston artist Laura Leeder is teaming up with the Creston Museum this year,
and will be presenting a special art exhibit during the Museum's tea. Even
better, her artwork features the teacups that will be used during the tea.

 

After volunteering for two years as the president of the Creston Art Club,
Leeder was eager to get back into the studio and paint.

 

"I wanted to work on a project that would inspire me, challenge me, motivate
me and keep me focused," Leeder says. "Creating a series, something new for
me, with the intent to exhibit it, would serve that purpose. I also wanted
help a cause or event that I would also enjoy supporting. As I collect
teapots and teacups and use them almost daily, that led to approaching the
Creston Museum to exhibit at the Old Fashioned Tea."

 

In January, Leeder borrowed a dozen of the Museum's teacups, and has spent
the intervening time creating watercolour paintings of them. The original
paintings will be on display during the Old-Fashioned Tea on August 13.
Prints and cards made from the paintings are available for sale in the
Museum's gift shop.

 

Of course, all the things that make the Old-Fashioned Tea the annual
favourite it is, will be there: the dainty sandwiches and sweets, staff in
period costumes, and some special visitors from the past.

 

It all takes place on the Museum's shaded patio on Saturday, August 13. As
usual, there will be three seatings, at 1:00, 2:00 and 3:00, and
reservations are highly recommended.

 

The Tea and Art Show is $8 per person ($4 for children six and under), and
your ticket gives you a chance to win one of the paintings on display,
valued at $130.
