*JOB POSTING*

The Fraser River Discovery Centre (FRDC) is an interpretive centre that 
connects communities in discovery and celebration of the living, working 
Fraser River. The FRDC is over 17,000 square feet and is prominently 
situated on the New Westminster's riverfront. FRDC presents engaging and 
thought provoking exhibits supported by interactive educational 
programs, services and activities that connect visitors to the river's 
history, environment and industry; its people and communities*. *The 
centre is looking for a *Part-time Operations Assistant.*

**

*Summary*

Reporting to the Executive Director, the *Operations Assistant* is 
responsible for visitor receptionand day to day operation of the Fraser 
River Discovery Centre,includinganswering public inquiries and 
forwarding calls to appropriate staff, registering program bookings and 
collecting fees, gift shop operations, maintainingthe safety and 
security of FRDC facility, contents, and visitors, coordinating building 
maintenance services and providing administrative support and assisting 
in special event execution and communication tasks.

*RESPONSIBILITIES:*

·Be the Society's primary visitor contact with responsibilities 
including visitor reception and answering public inquiries about FRDC 
hours of operation, location, exhibition and program information, and 
related matters; answering the telephone,processing admission and 
membership transactions and recording visitor attendance statistics

·Responsible for providing administrative support to the Executive 
Director and other staff as needed including maintenance of database and 
files'; processing all mail, overseeing maintenance of office systems 
and equipment; coordinate ordering and receipt of facility, office and 
program supplies and equipment

·Responsible for registering programs, special events and facility bookings.

·Responsible for maintaining the safety and security of FRDC buildings, 
contents, and visitors and liaising with appropriate contacts for 
building maintenance. **

·Responsible for gift shop operations, acquiring, maintaining and 
displaying inventory; transacting gift shop sales; training and 
supervising volunteers, as needed and act as direct supervisor of 
admissions and shop assistants, who are likely to be a combination of 
paid staff and volunteers of the Society. **

*REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:*

·Minimum 3 years office, volunteer and facility management experience 
with a not-for-profit organization andworking knowledge of retail shop 
procedures (at least 2 years experience),; A post-secondary degree, 
certificate or diploma in a related discipline (e.g. tourism, business, 
marketing, retail) is desirable.**

·Ability to multitask; manage time effectively, to function under 
pressure and to meet deadlines; and work independently on projects and 
also collaborate as a strong team member;

·Excellent ability in typing, spelling and grammar (keyboarding of 50-60 
wpm minimum), together with proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, 
particularly Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Publisher, Outlook;

·Experience with databases and proficient in the use of 
computer-generated inventory systems;

·Excellent interpersonal communication skills, both verbal and written;

·Proven excellent customer service skills and enjoys working with the 
public;

·Experience working with volunteers and in the non-profit sector is also 
desirable;

·Operations Assistant works in a busy, public environment with little to 
no privacy



ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
·Must have exceptional interpersonal, presentation, and verbal and 
writing communication skills
·Must be adaptable, outgoing, creative and self-starter
·Criminal record clearance required**
*HOURS:*Part-time, 24 hours per week, Wednesday to Saturday, 9:45 am to 
4:15 pm.
*RATE:**$*16.75/hr. **
