[BCMA] Early Railway Surveyor query

[Moderated BCMA subscriber listserv.]

Hi there,
We received a question from a visitor regarding a family member who worked with the railway survey teams in the Fraser Valley/Lytton area sometime around 1878-1881.  This visitor currently resides in southern England, but would like to learn anything she can about the early surveying in the area as well as about her ancestor, whose name was Joseph Dolan.  Mr. Dolan eventually settled in Revelstoke but we have little information about his life before that.
Can anyone direct me to where she may look for more information?
