Sea Shanties, a Ghost Hunt and Celestial Navigation...oh my!

June 6, 2011

What do all three have in common? They are just a few of the exciting headliners taking place at the Maritime Museum of BC!

June 18th and 19th join the MMBC for a spectacular adventure into the history and song of ever-popular Sea Shanties with our Sea Shanty Camp. Enjoy a catered lunch and morning and afternoon refreshments. Just in time for Father's Day, why not treat your Dad or Grandpa to a roster of talented performers and expert seafarers such as Hank Cramer, JD Erksine and Sarah Tradewell, just to name a few. The camp runs from 8:30- 5pm on Saturday, June 18th and continues on Sunday, June 19th from 8:30-12:30pm. Cost is $85 for non-members and $75 for MMBC members.

But that's not all! Do you dare step into the veil of the unexplained? Experience the Maritime Museum like never before. On July 30th, former UK-based Dawn Kirkham, clairvoyant medium and member of PARAVI Victoria's Paranormal Research Society will use her many years of experience to facilitate the ghostly investigation. This will not be a guided tour; participants will use investigative devices to seek out the unknown that resides in the walls of the Museum. The investigation begins at 9:30pm and goes until 4am. Cost is $65 per person.

Then get ready for our Starry Night Navigation program. Come to the Museum at 8:30pm on Saturday, August 13th to embark on this fascinating subject that has been around for thousands of years! Discover how to use the stars, moon and planets to navigate your way through ocean waters. The Centre of the Universe will also provide an introductory session on our solar system and illustrate the celestial orientations of both the Northern and Southern hemispheres. Then make your way down to the Inner Harbour and climb aboard one of Five-Star Whale Watching's signature vessels for a tour through the night sky using your newly-found skills! Hot drinks and light refreshments will be served. Cost is $85 for adults 19 and up and $65 for youth 6 and up. While this program is recommended for those 8 and older, children under 5 are free.

For more information on any of these programs or to register, please call 250-385-4222, ext. 113 or visit our website at mmbc.bc.ca. Pre-registration for all three is required. Register early, as space is limited.
