2011 Summertime Guided Tour Dates

Summertime is a great time to explore the Okanagan and discover
the unique and fascinating aspects of the natural and built heritage. A
total of nine tours are offered this year by the Summerland Museum. All
tours start at 9am to avoid the heat of summer days.

The Fur Brigade Tour is timely as this year marks the 200th
anniversary of the fur traders using the Brigade Trail. The tour dates are
July 1st, July 29th, August 7th and August 20th and will include discussion
of First Nations history, the use of Garnett Lake as one of the important
encampment sites and the establishment of the settlement of Priest, the
first non-native settlement in British Columbia that wasn't fortified.

The Prairie Valley tour uses the Trans Canada Trail. The dates are July 3rd,
August 1st, and August 21st. The tour describes Summerland's unique geology,
First Nations history, and the numerous famous people who owned land in
Prairie Valley.

The Peach Orchard Cemetery Tour: September 3rd, 2011. Summerland cemetery
tours are by far, the most popular tours. The tour will review the history
of some of our community's citizens who are buried there.

The Geological Bus Tour is back by popular demand on September 17th, 2011
with Dr. Kathleen Jagger. You will learn about Summerland's oldest
inhabitants, the rocks and geological formations.

There is a limit of fifteen people per tour. Registration and
pre-payment (cash or cheque) is required at the Museum for all of the tours.

The cost is $20 per person. If you are already a Summerland Museum Society
member there is a $10 savings, plus an additional $5 off if you are an
Okanagan Historical Society member.

Museum hours are Tuesday to Saturday, 10am to 4pm.
