The Kelowna ART FROM MEMORY Challenge:
Works Inspired by Stories of the Second World War
- Contest closes March 15 -
Calling all Okanagan artists! There are just two weeks left to enter! Create an original artwork inspired by the story of an Okanagan Valley veteran from Canada's largest archive of Second World War oral history, The Memory Project: Stories of the Second World War. Ten winners will be selected for inclusion in a special exhibition at the Kelowna Heritage Museum in April, 2011. Submissions must be received by March 15, 2011 for a chance to be exhibited in one of British Columbia's preeminent heritage collections.
Please find enclosed Kelowna Art from Memory Challenge posters that we hope you will display in your school, gallery or community organization in order to raise awareness about this unique opportunity. An initiative of The Historica-Dominion Institute, The Memory Project: Stories of the Second World War is a nation-wide oral history project that is creating an unprecedented record of Canada's participation in the Second World War as seen through the eyes of thousands of men and women who were there. The Memory Project has travelled to 10 provinces and 1 territory to record the experiences of thousands of veterans from across Canada. The Memory Project is a not-for-profit initiative and is made possible with funding from the Government of Canada through the Department of Canadian Heritage.
The Historica-Dominion Institute is the largest independent organization dedicated to Canadian history. Its mandate is to build active and informed citizens through a greater knowledge and appreciation of the history, heritage and stories of Canada.
