Nancy Greene donates her 2010 Olympic torch to the BC Sports Hall of Fame
Torch signed by each of the final five torchbearers will be a hallmark
artifact at the new Vancouver 2010 Celebration Gallery, opening to the
public in November 2011
Vancouver, B.C. - Today, the BC Sports Hall of Fame announced that Canadian
Olympic champion skier Nancy Greene has donated her Olympic torch to the BC
Sports Hall of Fame. The torch was used by Nancy to ignite the Olympic
cauldron alongside Wayne Gretzky, Rick Hansen, Steve Nash and Catriona LeMay
Doan at the Opening Ceremonies for the 2010 Winter Olympic Games.
Signed by each of the final five torchbearers, this iconic Olympic artifact
has been added to the more than 1,600 Olympic artifacts collected by the BC
Sports Hall of Fame since 2008. To view a gallery of images,

"Nancy's Olympic torch represents one of our country's most cherished
Olympic memories - we are extremely grateful to Nancy for her incredible
generosity," said Sue Griffin, President and CEO of the BC Sports Hall of
Fame. "The torch will most certainly have a special place in our new 2010
Olympic and Paralympic Celebration Gallery."
The new 6,000 square foot gallery will be completely dedicated to the spirit
of the Vancouver 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games. The objective of
the gallery is to preserve and celebrate the inspiring memories and moments
of the Games - encouraging visitors to experience the exhilaration of
winning gold at home, spontaneous outbreaks of national pride and
overwhelming demonstrations of focused determination and commitment by our
athletes.
"We firmly believe that a permanent tribute to the 2010 Winter Games at BC
Place will benefit the province for years to come," said Griffin. "We are
committed to working with our partners to ensure important artifacts like
Nancy's torch remain in B.C. to inspire visitors for generations."
The BC Sports Hall of Fame at BC Place is a natural and ideal location for a
permanent Gallery dedicated to the Vancouver 2010 Olympic and Paralympic
Games. During the Games, visitors from around the world descended on BC
Place daily; it's where we opened the Games, celebrated incredible athletic
performances and showcased our immense national pride to the world during
the closing ceremonies.
The BC Sports Hall of Fame will be unveiling the design concept for the new
Olympic and Paralympic Celebration Gallery at a private function on March
10, 2011. It is also asking the public to provide input and feedback via its

like to see celebrated in the Olympic and Paralympic Celebration Gallery.
