Il Museo, the museum at the Italian Cultural Centre, Vancouver, is seeking a
Museum Assistant to document and package objects from its museum collection.


Location: Il Museo, Italian Cultural Centre, Vancouver. 
Wage: $14 per hour, 30 hours a week. 
Start date: Monday May 16 2011.
End date: Friday 2 September 2011

Job Description
The Museum Assistant will document, research, photograph, catalogue and
repackage objects from the collection of Il Museo. 

The Museum Assistant will gain hands on experience of working with and
cataloguing a museum collection. Training will be given in object handing,
packaging and use of our documentation system. The Museum Assistant will
have the opportunity to put their studies to practical use in a museum
environment while gaining valuable work experience.  

Qualifications:
The position is especially suited to students of Museum Studies or a related
discipline. An educational background in history would be an advantage. 

Skills required:
Familiarity with Microsoft Office programs. 
The ability to produce accurate and consistent written work of a high
standard. 
A demonstrable interest in social history. 
Some experience of, or familiarity with, museum collections management
databases would be advantageous. 
Knowledge of Italian is helpful, but not essential. 

Applicants must be:

*	legally entitled to  work in Canada; 
*	be between 16 and 30 years of age 
*	have been a full-time student in the semester preceding the job 
*	intend to return to full-time studies in the semester following the
job
*	be willing to commit to the full duration of the work assignment; 
*	not have another full-time job (over 30 hours a week)while employed
*	be registered in the YCW online candidate inventory
(www.youngcanadaworks.gc.ca).
