FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Continuum Dance Company Presents Nine Dynamic Dance Works at the Shadbolt Centre for the Arts
BURNABY, BC - A diverse show presenting nine new works by a dynamic group of nine diverse dancers. Join Continuum Dance Company for Here and Now presenting nine dynamic modern dance works by: Artistic Director Donna Redlick, Guest Choreographer Salome Diaz and six of the company's dancers. Performances by company dancers: Christina Carter-Hughes, Erika Costa, Greg Gurel, Janet Harrison, Sheila Langston, Kristina Lemieux, Tonya Ng, Heather Sandison and Michelyn Smythe.
Artistic Director Donna Redlick presents two pieces: Tracings, exploring physical etchings inspired by the inner-outer relationship of the mobius strip, integrating projections of evocative art work by painter Joseph Hagg and Standing in White Noise, a vibrant dance exploring how our urban environment enters into our skin effecting the way we move. Guest Choreographer Salome Diaz presents Pulling Through, a butoh inspired piece weaving together the dancer’s intimate thoughts through movement.
Six Dancers in the company premier new works: Sheila Langston presents Be Danced inspired by the poem This Dance by Jewel Mathieson. Tonya Ng presents her new solo You know Something? inspired by her baby nephew’s sense of curiosity and wonder in his exploration of the world around him. Heather Sandison presents Anochecer in which she illustrates a side of Flamenco less seen - a warmer, gentler, softer side inspired by the life, light and sounds found along the Mediterranean Coast of Spain. Ida Rides the Mandala created and performed by Janet Harrison is based on the story of a young girl who rides a mandala through the microcosm and macrocosm that is her. Erika Costa and Greg Gurel present a rich and dynamic duet Rencontres inspired by a dance by Lisa Hostman and the differences that connect one another through the love of dance.
Continuum is Shadbolt Centre’s community modern dance company for adults. The company provides an opportunity for the advanced adult dancer to return or continue to dance. The goal of the company is to expose dancers and audiences to the art of modern dance.
