Celebrate Asian Heritage Month with your Kelowna Museums!
Festival Day Celebrations on this Saturday

May is Asian Heritage Month!  The Kelowna Museums Society invites you to join us this Saturday, May 28th for a day of celebrations, as hosted by Kelowna Community Resources.
Known as "Festival Day", this celebration will include performances and demonstrations from residents of Chinese, Indian, Japanese, Korean, and Filipino heritages.    Everyone is welcome, and there are no admission charges for the celebrations.  For more information, please visit www.kcr.ca<http://www.kcr.ca/>.
The Kelowna Museums has several exhibits celebrating Asian Canadian heritage.    Take a walk through the Okanagan Heritage Museum to see our various exhibits of Asian artefacts, including a Chinese store from Kelowna's China Town in the Local History Gallery.    Kelowna Community Resources will also be showing a video presentation in the Natural History Gallery.
Be sure to stop by the Laurel Packinghouse at the BC Orchard Industry Museum to see our exhibit about Chinese immigrants and their involvement in our local agriculture.  The BC Orchard Industry Museum is open from 10 am to 4 pm for Festival Day.    The Kelowna Museums will also be included as part of a walking tour, starting at 2:00 pm starting from the Rotary Centre for the Arts.  Admission to all Kelowna Museums is by donation.
Asian Heritage month was established to acknowledge the long and rich history of Asian Canadians and their contributions to Canada.   This provides an opportunity for all Canadians to reflect and celebrate these Canadians of Asian heritage, and their role in the growth and prosperity of Canada.
Festival Day at a Glance:

10:30 am - Opening Ceremony (at the Rotary Centre for the Arts)
11:00 am - Chinese extravaganza
11:30 am - Japanese extravaganza
12:00 pm - East Indian culture extravaganza
12:30 pm - Korean culture extravaganza
1:00 pm  - Filipino culture extravaganza
2:00 pm  - Walking tour of Kelowna Art Gallery, Kelowna Museums, and Kasugai Gardens
