MOA PUBLIC PROGRAMS
Inspired by the exhibition, ひろしま hiroshima by Ishiuchi Miyako, MOA and its many partners have developed a series of concerts, film screenings, talks, and performances taking place at the Museum and around Vancouver. Film Screening: Cultures of Resistance -TOMORROW NIGHT!
Tuesday, November 8, 7:00-9:00 pm, Michael M. Ames Theatre, MOA
This film directed by Iara Lee explores how art and creativity can be used as ammunition in the battle for peace and justice. Featured are Medellín poets for peace, Capoeira masters from Brazil, Niger Delta militants, Iranian graffiti artists, women’s movement leaders in Rwanda, and more. 73 min. (Second screening: Tuesday, January 17, 2012, 7:00-9:00 pm.)

Vancouver Children’s Literature Roundtable: Joy Kogawa & Maggie DeVries

Authors Joy Kogawa (Naomi’s Road and Naomi’s Tree) and Maggie DeVries (Hunger Journeys and Chance and the Butterfly) discuss ways in which contemporary children’s literature can address the effects of social conflict in the world. Presented with Vancouver Children’s Literature Roundtable.

Dr. Ochiai speaks about "Nuclear Weapons and Nuclear Power Generation – Humankind’s Efforts to Harness Energy with Failure to Contain the Associated Radiation." Vancouver Save Article 9 was established in May 2005 to work for preservation, realization, and promotion of Article 9, the war-renunciation clause of the Japanese Constitution.
Film Screening: Amandla! A Revolution in Four-Part Harmony
Tuesday, December 6, 7:00-9:00 pm, Michael M. Ames Theatre, MOA
Documentary about the ways in which music was used in the South African fight for freedom to unite the oppressed, give voice to their cause, console the incarcerated, and serve as an effective underground form of communication inside the prisons. 103 min.
