Cowichan Valley Museum & Archives
November 22, 2011
This Friday, the Cowichan Valley Museum will be open from 5 pm to 7:45 pm for our annual Christmas Past Comes Alive! event. "Living History" displays feature volunteers dressed in period costume, representing people from Cowichan's past, ensconced throughout the museum.
"Winter in Wartime" is the theme for this year's displays. Like other communities across Canada, residents of the Cowichan Valley were encouraged to "Keep the Home Fires Burning", a message that is embroidered on a cushion in the museum's collection. While loved ones fought wars overseas, people at home faced challenges, such as rationing. Christmas was a particularly difficult time for those on the home front.
All aboard! for a special electric toy train that is on view between November 23 and December 23. The model railway cars are set in a Cowichan Valley wintertime scene. More train sets from the 1920s, '30s and '40s are also on display.
The Cowichan Valley Museum is located in the Duncan Train Station on Canada Avenue in Duncan, BC. Please contact curator Kathryn Gagnon for more information at (250) 746-6612 or email cvmuseum.archives at shaw.ca
