Inspired by the exhibition, ひろしま hiroshima by Ishiuchi Miyako, MOA and its many partners have developed a series of talks, film screenings, concerts, and performances. Film Screening: The Sirota Family and the 20th Century
Tuesday, November 22, 7:00-8:30 pm, Michael M. Ames Theatre, MOA
Directed by Tomoko Fujiwara, this documentary describes the fate of a Jewish family in WWII in Europe and Japan. 93 min.
OFFSITE: Panel Discussion: Nuclear Weapons in Asia's Future
Friday, November 25, 5:00-6:00 pm, C.K. Choi Building, 1855 West Mall, UBC (free)
A screening of and panel discussion about Nuclear Tipping Point, a documentary assessing the utility of nuclear weapons from the perspectives of Henry Kissinger, George Schultz, Colin Powell, and others. Hosted by the UBC Institute of Asian Research and moderated by Paul Evans.
Illustrated Talk: Dr. Eiichiro Ochiai of Vancouver Save Article 9
Saturday, November 26, 1:00-2:30 pm, Michael M. Ames Theatre, MOA
Dr. Ochiai speaks about "Nuclear Weapons and Nuclear Power Generation – Humankind’s Efforts to Harness Energy with Failure to Contain the Associated Radiation." Vancouver Save Article 9 was established in May 2005 to work for preservation, realization, and promotion of Article 9, the war-renunciation clause of the Japanese Constitution.
Film Screening: Amandla! A Revolution in Four-Part Harmony
Tuesday, December 6, 7:00-9:00 pm, Michael M. Ames Theatre, MOA
Documentary about the ways in which music was used in the South African fight for freedom to unite the oppressed, give voice to their cause, console the incarcerated, and serve as an effective underground form of communication inside the prisons. 103 min.
