Victoria, BC, Canada - Craigdarroch Castle Historical Museum Society announces six ticketed performances of "A Christmas Carol" by Charles Dickens. The classic holiday tale has been adapted as a one-man play by Jason Stevens and will be performed in the historic Victorian mansion on Saturday December 10th, Wednesdays December 14, 21 & 28th, and Fridays December 16 & 23rd. All performances will be at 7pm with doors opening at 6:30.
Jason Stevens comes to Victoria by way of London and New York, where he trained and worked as an actor. He has been storytelling in Victoria for several years, as well as performing in acclaimed local productions such as "The Pillowman" and "Artichoke" at Theatre Inconnu and Langham Court. He embodied the character of Officer Lightoller in the record-breaking Titanic exhibit at the RBC Museum, and his one-man performance of "A Christmas Carol" been described as "perfect" by the Oak Bay News. Barry Bowman, well-known Victoria radio personality enthuses "To have this kind of talent, someone who can do this without lights, without props, is incredible."
"We look forward to sharing Dickens' story in the Castle. As a home built upon the successes of Industrialist Robert Dunsmuir, it is a fitting setting for the story of generosity and community during the Industrial Revolution," explains Assistant Manager of Operations and Development, Elisabeth Hazell. "Our vision for The Castle Society is to connect with the greater community in Victoria in sharing our collective history. By widening the scope of our programming this holiday season to include theatre, arts and music, we hope to bring more people through this amazing historic house museum and make them aware of its importance in our community."
Tickets $20 adults or $15 students. (Not designed for under ages 13.)
Members of the Craigdarroch Castle Historical Museum Society receive $2.00 off admission.
