How Much Do You Know About Apples?
Come and Find Out This Saturday at the 23rd Annual Apple Fair!


What kind of fruit is a Winter Banana?  An apple of course!

This Saturday, the BC Orchard Industry Museum is hosting their 23rd Annual Apple Fair, and there will be all sorts of weird and wonderful things to learn about our local orcharding industry.

Did you know?  That the Spartan, Sunrise, Aurora Golden Gala, Ambrosia, and Shamrock all originated in BC?  They are just a few of the varieties that we can be proud to call our own.   Orchards are a significant contributor to not only our economy, but are recognized on a world wide scale.  "We want our residents to know where they come from, and to be proud of it," says Apple Fair Coordinator, Jasmine Marshall.

Other interesting facts about apples:

*         Father Pandosy planted the very first apple tree in Kelowna!

*         A full apple picking bag can weigh a whopping 40 pounds!

*         If you plant an apple seed, the tree that grows from it won't be true to its originating variety.  To grow a proper apple, you have to graft or bud off of another tree!

*         Apples are not only a source of vitamin C, but high in dietary fibre, and are sodium free!



Come out to the Apple Fair this Saturday, and learn, taste, and enjoy a fun-filled day full of activities for all ages!
