Position Title:                   Guest Services Hosting Staff - 2011/2012

Position Type:                   Permanent Part Time

The BC Sports Hall of Fame has a number of exciting opportunities for
individuals to join our team. We will be re-opening in November 2011 with a
spectacular new Hall of Champions and Vancouver 2010 Gallery.

Position Overview:

We have a number of permanent part time Guest Services Hosting Staff
positions available. These individuals fulfill a key role in the operations
of the BC Sports Hall of Fame. Working in close collaboration with the
Program Coordinator, hosting staff are lead ambassadors for the museum,
liaising with visitors, student and community groups and the community at
large.

Guest services staff will be joining a small team of six full time
employees. The individuals will be responsible for leading group tours,
greeting visitors at the Guest Services Reception Centre and ensuring a
clean and safe experience for our guests. 

 

We are seeking candidates who are passionate about sport and sport history.
Candidates must enjoy working with diverse groups of people and have a
strong interest in inspiring and educating students, community groups and
visitors.  The organization is undergoing a period of change and growth, as
such candidate must demonstrate flexibility, a very positive attitude and
the ability to take on additional responsibilities as required, work
independently and work to deadlines.

The mission of the BC Sports Hall of Fame and Museum is "Honouring the Past

Key responsibilities include:

.       Guest Services Reception

o    Greeting guests and responding to visitor enquiries

o    Responding to and directing phone, email and web inquiries

o    Handling cash transactions

o    Maintain accurate daily records of visitors, groups and school
attendance

 

.       Visitor Experience

o    Create exceptional visitor experience including daily checks on audio
visual systems to ensure interactive are operating effectively

o    Work with team to ensure visitor expectations and needs are met and
surpassed

o    Monitoring safety and cleanliness of facility throughout the day

.       Group Tours

o    Coordination and delivery of group tours

o    Promotion of in house tours and special events to community group and
school leaders

 

.       Birthday Party and Special Events

o    Assist in setting up and taking down of birthday party and special
event space 

o    Monitor cleanliness of space and safety of group experience

o    Ensure clients have a first class experience

 

.       Completing miscellaneous office tasks as required

 

The successful candidate will have the following qualifications:

.       Demonstrated experience working with a tourist destination, museum
or related organization in a guest services-oriented position.

.       Exceptional communication skills

.       Cash handling experience

.       Commitment to a high level of professionalism and the ability to
deliver exceptional customer service

.       Available to work week days, evenings and weekends. Must be able to
work flexible hours including  holidays. 

.       Exceptional interpersonal, problem-solving and verbal and written
communication skills

.       Able to work independently and as part of a team

.       Highly organized 

.       Interest in or knowledge of sport or history 

.       Great sense of humour

.       Possesses a good working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Excel,
Word, Outlook)

.       Legally entitled to work in Canada; is a Canadian citizen or a
permanent resident, or have refugee status in Canada



Background:

The BC Sports Hall of Fame is a not-for-profit society, founded in 1966 to
establish a permanent tribute to the outstanding individuals, teams, and
builders of sport in the Province. The BC Sports Hall of Fame is guided by a
Board of Trustees and is staffed by a team of six. Located within BC Place,
the BC Sports Hall of Fame has 20,000 square feet of exciting exhibits,
interactive and educational displays demonstrating the passion and
commitment of British Columbia's athletes and teams. Visitors are able to
share the vision of those who achieved their dreams through dedication,
talent and hard work. The BC Sports Hall of Fame is the ideal place for

Compensation for the position is $12 per hour. Only those candidates short
