Summerland Museum & Archives presents:
FUR BRIDGADE TRAIL BICENTENNIAL LECTURE Sat. Oct. 1/11 7pm
Join the Faith Rebekah Lodge, the Summerland Museum and CCDC at the
IOOF/Rebekah Hall, 9536 Main Street, when they host the Lectures presented
by Randy Manuel, Ken Favrholdt and David Gregory, recognized authorities on
the Fur Brigade Trail. Admission is by donation with a maximum seating of

"FOLLOW THE PATH OF THE FUR TRADERS" GUIDED TOUR Oct. 2/11 9:30am
Join David Gregory and follow the Fur Brigade Trail through Garnett Valley.
The Tour begins with a PowerPoint description of the Okanagan Fur Brigade
Trail through the Summerland area. This trail was used by First Nations as a
transportation and trade route for at least 6,000 years. The trail was used
by the fur traders from 1811-1846. When gold was discovered in 1858 the
trail again became the main transportation route used by gold miners,
cattlemen and merchants. You will see where the trail crossed Aeneas Creek,
visit the 50 acre Priest Camp Historic Park (the most identified encampment
site along the trail) and walk a portion of the Okanagan Fur Brigade Trail
Linear Park. The walk is not far, but good shoes are required. The final
destination is "L'Arbre Seul", the lookout, one of the best views of
Okanagan Lake.
Time: 9:30 a.m. -Noon COST: BY DONATION
Meeting Place: I.O.O.F. Hall, 9536 Main Street Summerland & carpool the 4.1
km section of the Okanagan Brigade Trail with an easy 10 minute walk at the
end of the trail to the lookout.
What to bring: water, sun hat/protection, all-weather clothing, and good
footwear.

Geology Bus Tour and Optional Hike - Sat., Oct.8th, 2011
Join knowledgeable and entertaining geologist Kathleen Jagger in a
discovery of the varied and fascinating geological formations and rock types
that are found in the Summerland area. The bus will take you to a number of
stops of interest where Kathleen will explain the various rock types and
formations, faults, glacial movements and lava flows to name a few, and then
up Giant's Head Mountain to the parking area. From there, take an optional
15 minute hike to the summit for a geological explanation of the gorgeous
panoramic view of the valley.
Time: 10:00 a.m. - Noon Cost: $10
Group Size: 20
