Hello Members, Subscribers & Stakeholders;

On behalf of the BCMA Council & Secretariat, and the Program & local Host
Committees for Conference 2011, and further to our update last Friday, we
regret to confirm that we did not receive the minimum number of
registrations required to proceed.

Therefore, with the resulting serious financial risk to the BCMA, we had no
alternative but to cancel Conference for this year.

We have quickly produced a brief, 5-minute online survey at:
https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/Y6X5F5C
... to collect vital feedback from 2011 registrants, BUT also from those who
did not register this year, including input on the annual BCMA Conference in
general, for future planning.

The BCMA wishes to acknowledge the many efforts of this year´s Program &
Host Committees, mostly from smaller institutions who have worked very
hard over the spring and summer to welcome the province to Cranbrook,
and to deliver Conference 2011 for BCMA, despite their continuing
obligations to their own institutions.

Also we extend our appreciation to our Member Services Coordinator,
Shelley Gauthier, for administering Conference and assisting registrants,
presenters and exhibitors.

We look forward to receiving your survey input at:
https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/Y6X5F5C

In the meantime, BCMA turns our attention to alternative plans for a
1-day event in late-November or early-December, likely in the Lower
Mainland to facilitate travel, with the re-scheduled Annual General Meeting,
a special Guest Speaker, the 2011Museums in Motion Awards presentation
ceremony, and potential plenary; as well as to Kamloops, BC, and planning
for Conference 2012.

Please watch the BCMA and MBEN listservs, and BCMA website for
updates and announcements, including calls for 2012 Program Committee
volunteers and Conference workshop and session proposals.

Thank you once again for your patience, understanding and continued
support of the BCMA.

Sincerely,
Jim Harding,
Executive Director,
BC Museums Association
