The Osoyoos & District Museum and Archives is seeking two energetic and conscientious students between 16 and 30 years old. Students must have completed their first year of university or college, be returning to full time studies in the fall, and be registered with Young Canada Works (www.youngcanadaworks.com). The general objective of each position is to provide important assistance to the two-staff operation of the Osoyoos Museum. Computer skills and good organizational skills are essential. Subject to funding.

Both positions will start Monday, May 14 and end Friday, August 24, 2012.
35hrs per week @ $12.00 per hour.
Heritage Researcher
The student will research and compile information and provide assistance in a variety of areas including:
- compiling information, pictures and other documents related to 15 (fifteen) buildings and sites within Osoyoos and surrounding area, describing in detail their significance, architectural style, important people and events associated with the sites;
- taking new digital images of the historic buildings and sites;
- writing a draft report (20-30 pages) of the buildings and sites (#1), for use by the Museum and the Town, other researchers and the general public;
- assisting with the writing of a walking tour booklet for sale at the Museum and other locations in Osoyoos;
- assisting with the development of a permanent museum exhibit on the history of early Osoyoos;
- conducting four walking tours of the downtown area related to the findings of the historical research;
- assisting with a public presentation relating to the heritage program in Osoyoos;
- greeting visitors to the museum and performing guided tours of the museum including school groups, cultural tourism tours, and various organizations;
- other related museum work including general housekeeping.
Curatorial Assistant
The position will assist with a variety of museum collections management tasks to help improve the care and management of the museum collection, including:
- conducting an inventory of portions of the Museum collection, updating documentation and database records, and photographing artifacts, all according to CHIN standards (it is estimated that 10 artifacts per day will be processed and data entry will amount to 500 artifacts over a 10 week period);
- assessing and preparing artifact supports for objects on exhibit;
- interpreting the collections on exhibit to visitors of the museum, including research and the production of new explanatory labels;
- greeting visitors to the museum and performing guided tours of the museum including school groups, cultural tourism tours, and various organizations;
- helping volunteers with front desk reception, including making cash transactions and keeping records of attendance;
- other related museum work including general housekeeping.
