S.S. TITANIC COMMEMORATIVE CLASSICAL MUSIC PERFORMANCE

 

 

On Sunday, April 15th, the Bulkley Valley Museum will host a commemorative
classical music performance at the Old Church, in Smithers, to mark the
100th anniversary of the sinking of the S.S. Titanic on April 15th, 1912.

 

The performance maestro is Roxi Dykstra, playing the viola. Smithers
resident, Roxi, grew up in northern British Columbia and lives in Smithers.
Roxi recently returned from performing in Istanbul, Turkey. Roxi has also
performed in France, Italy, Australia, Russia, Scotland, Germany and the
Netherlands.

 

Joining Roxi Dykstra on Sunday, April 15th, at the Old Church, will be
fellow Bulkley Valley residents, Sharon Carrington on piano and Stefan
Bichelmaier on violin.

 

The commemorative performance will include classical works which were
typically played by ships' orchestras in the early years of the last
century, including the hymn, "Nearer, My God, To Thee", which the Titanic's
orchestra is purported to have played as the mighty ship slipped down to her
watery grave.

 

The performance starts at 7pm at the Old Church, Smithers, Sunday, April
15th.

 

Admission by donation.

 

Also, visit the Titanic exhibition at the Bulkley Valley Museum, Smithers,
Monday-Friday, 

9-5pm.
