The Reach Short Listed for EMC Heritage Trust $15,000 Contest

April 11, 2012, Abbotsford, BC.....The Reach Gallery Museum Abbotsford has been shortlisted for the EMC Heritage Trust Contest and is in the running for $15,000.  One of only two Canadian projects selected for this North American grant contest, The Reach needs support from across BC and Canada.

The EMC Heritage Trust Project recognizes and supports local organizations worldwide that advocate the digitalization, preservation and improved access of significant cultural resources.  Photographs. Ancient writings. Letters. Film. Music. Visual art. These are all part of the world's information heritage. Through the EMC Heritage Trust Project, together we can ensure that future generations will continue to be entertained and educated by the world's historic artefacts.
The Reach is one of seven projects shortlisted for the 2012 contest.  Supporters can now go online and vote until April 23rd for The Reach.  It just takes three easy steps:
1. go to The Reach home page (www.thereach.ca<http://www.thereach.ca> ) and click the EMC contest link
2. "Like" EMC
3. Vote for The Reach

The funds will be used for The Reach's Online Photo Archives and to digitize a recent acquisition of Abbotsford News photos.  Since launching in March of 2011 the Online Photo Archives
has grown from 3,000 to 9000 images.  It is fully searchable by 25 different categories, 18 different communities from Bradner to Sumas and by decade starting with the 1880s and continuing
to the 1990s.  The Reach is dedicated to making our community's heritage accessible; images on the photo archives are sharable through social media including twitter and facebook.
The mission of The Reach is to be the centre of cultural and creative innovation in the Fraser Valley.  We are committed to preserving and sharing the stories of our rich and diverse cultural heritage and showcasing the best in the visual arts from both inside and outside our community.  The Reach is located at 32388 Veterans Way, Abbotsford. Addition to exhibitions is always Free.
