Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Classical Chinese Garden
Part-Time CASHIER/TOUR GUIDE NEEDED
Come join the team at the Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Classical Chinese Garden, one of
Vancouver's top museum/cultural attractions and award-winning heritage
sites! We invite applications for the position of Cashier and Tour Guide in
the Visitor Services department at the Garden.
This is a seasonal (May-October), part-time (10-35 hours/week) position,
working some weekdays, weekends and holidays. We will do our best to give
you a regular schedule but please note it WILL include working Friday
evenings all Summer for our famous Enchanted Evening concert series.
This position would best suit someone who is gregarious; chatty and loves to
work with people. The position can be summarized like this: we deliver all
cashiering/ticketing services, we give tours, we make visitors welcome and
we clean. No, you don't need to have an in-depth knowledge of Chinese
culture; just be willing to learn and share what we teach. J
Duties:
. Ensure the effective and efficient delivery of cashier services
. Greet customers with excellent customer service
. Open and/or close the facility, which includes cash-out, bank
deposit, reconciliation of daily records, setting/disarming security system,
etc
. Deliver interpretive tours to an international audience
. Assist with set-up, dismantling, and clean-up of special events
and weddings
. Perform general on-site maintenance and light housekeeping duties
. Answer general enquiries regarding all aspects of the Garden's
history, activities and events
. Maintain a professional and co-operative relationship with guests,
staff, and volunteers
. Other duties as required
Qualifications:
. Experience handling cash and credit card payments
. Experience working with the public and public speaking
. Must have excellent communication skills (fluent in English),
additional languages an asset
. Ability to deal effectively with emergency situations
. Ability to represent the Garden with a high degree of
professionalism and enthusiasm
. Able to work independently, energetically and dependably
. Must be presentable (uniform policy in place)
. Interest and/or knowledge of Chinese culture and history
Wage: $11.00/hr plus 4% vacation pay. Deadline for application is April 26,
2012.
