I recall hearing (from then Museum Director Sue Morhun?) that there was
a restriction on the sale - that the King truck collection was not to be
split up. I recall hearing too that Mr. King kept every truck that he ever
had, thus the oldest is a 1914 FWD right hand drive ex-Army lorry. When the
BC Government dismantled the old Transportation Museum, they did
irreparable damage. They killed the public TRUST (which happens to be a
session topic I have proposed for upcoming BCMA conference.) I have spoken
to vintage vehicle collectors who would now never donate vehicles and
accessories in the future to a BC transport museum due to that terrible
experience.
The BC government did however do some things right. Having made the bad
decision to dissolve the museum, they then offered the most historic
vehicles to BC museums. At Burnaby Village Museum we were offered a truck
that had been found abandoned in Burnaby and then restored, but I recalled
having seen a 1929 Nash Roadster named "Agnes" which had much more Burnaby
provenance. I asked for that and obtained it for BVM.
