How CEO plans to guide ROM into its second century
The Toronto Star Share/Partager
As the Royal Ontario Museum gets ready to celebrate its 100th birthday next year, CEO Janet Carding is
plotting bold changes to assure prosperity, popularity, viability and relevance in the venerated institution's
second century while avoiding danger zones. To counter the threats lurking in the combined effects of
shrinking revenues, a troublesome economy and the inconvenient truth that U.S. tourists have become an
endangered species, Carding is taking some steps that won't be to everyone's liking. More/LIRE PLUS

Century-old streetcar rails unearthed in Saint John
CBC News Share/Partager
Saint John construction crews unearthed some century-old streetcar rails this week while digging to install
sections of the harbour cleanup project. The tracks were discovered at the intersection of Rothesay and
Thorne avenues and have caused some traffic chaos on the busy stretch of road. Rothesay Avenue's
eastbound lanes are closed from the Marco Polo Bridge to Reserve Street while the tracks are being
removed, which will likely take about a week, said Pierre Leblanc, a civil engineer for Crandall Engineering.

Globe could help B.C. find new place in history, author says
The Times Colonist Share/Partager
Historian Samuel Bawlf wants Canadians to see a crucial piece of evidence supporting the idea that
Vancouver Island was visited by Sir Francis Drake in 1579, but he has run into a roadblock. A 16th-century
globe on display in London includes a Pacific coastline that Bawlf believes to be British Columbia. The
former B.C. heritage minister wants to have the globe scanned into an image that he says will show the
province centuries before Capt. James Cook's famous voyage in 1778. More/LIRE PLUS
