Riot on the Roof: The Alternative Arts Event of the Summer is Nearly Here!

Join the Vernon Public Art Gallery and 105.7 Sun FM on Saturday August 25th
for the 4th annual Riot on the Roof!  An evening of alternative art, Riot
provides affordable space for music, artwork, film, poetry, fashion and so
much more, bottling the creativity of the Okanagan and showcasing it for the
older youth and community to enjoy.    

Sponsored in part by Nature's Fare, this year Riot offers music from five
incredibly talented local bands with a strong, loyal following.  Stomp your
blues away with Devon Coyote, become entranced with Vernon's own Windmills,
sway along with Kelowna's JoyfulDoor, rock your mother's favorite socks off
with Paperboy, or just plain old dance like no one's watching with the
Kamloops crew of Van Damsel.  

Sharing a rooftop with these amazing bands are the haunting, smooth voices
of acoustic performers Bjorn Kriel and Harley David Knife.  

You can also catch a Wearable Art Fashion Show from Calgary based
fashion/mixed media artist whose talent and works have been seen in Toronto,
L.A, Banff, and recently, Vancouver Fashion Week!  Mackenzie Jones will
showcase her creativity with the help of Vernon's Chatters Salon and Spa
team!

Also in store for 2012 is the artistic creations of Dawn Tyndall's body art,
alternative sound performances from UBC-O's Professor Neil Cadger and
students, a lounge area for poetry and spoken word, live art and art
installations from local emerging artists, mural artwork from Tandem
Studios, film screenings from UBC-O's Professor Michael V. Smith as well as
the VPAG's previous Youth Ambassador, Kristen Burns with Julia Prudehomme.
Not to mention a dozen other artistic activities, dance, door prizes and
other fun surprises-this year's Riot on the Roof is going to be bigger than
ever!

Admission is $5, or $10, and it gets you a yearlong membership to the Vernon
Public Art Gallery, and it helps support the talented local artists,
performers and musicians who rely on your generous attendance and support.

Tickets are available at the Vernon Public Art Gallery, Vernon Bean Scene
and at the door* (doors open at 6:30)**.  Public drug and alcohol free
event.  All ages welcome!
