August 20, 2012 - Kelowna, BC: The Kelowna Art Gallery is pleased to announce a new exhibition of works by ten artists who have works in our permanent collection, opening August 25, 2012. Personal Topographies: selected works from the permanent collection is a look at artists who are working with landscape in individual ways. Personal Topographies will be on view from August 25 to October 28, 2012 at the Kelowna Art Gallery.

The ten artists whose work is included are David Alexander, BC Binning, John Hartman, Jim Kalnin, Ann Kipling, Wanda Lock, John Noestheden, Toni Onley, Jack Shadbolt, and Alan Wood. All but two of the artists live or lived and worked in British Columbia. Rather than producing straightforward topographical depictions, the ten artists in this show have unique ways of thinking and working with structures, materials, and arrangements that shift their work out of the traditional landscape niche.

The pieces in the show range from work that is largely conceptual to almost abstract, from fanciful and imaginary to distorted expressions that are linked to perceived information in only the loosest of ways.

"We are delighted to be able to share these works from our permanent collection with the public," says Nataley Nagy, Executive Director at the Kelowna Art Gallery. "This will be the first time many of the pieces have been displayed since entering the collection and is part of our on-going efforts to diversify our program of exhibitions."

An opening reception to celebrate this exhibition will be held on Friday, September 21, 2012, from 7 to 9 pm, at the Kelowna Art Gallery. This will be a free event, open to members and guests, by invitation.
