Feds, city in spat over CMHR servicing cost
Winnipeg Free Press Share/Partager
Winnipeg and Ottawa are squabbling over how much money the Canadian Museum for Human Rights
must pay the city to cover the cost of servicing the federal institution. But the Province of Manitoba stands
to lose out in the short term, because Broadway happens to be first in line for the cash. Earlier this year,
Winnipeg's assessment and taxation department issued the CMHR a $198,000 bill for payment in lieu of
taxes, or PILT, which is money federal institutions pay municipalities in place of property taxes. More/LIRE

More/LIRE PLUS
Stunning exhibit captures early mountaineering images
The Province Share/Partager
A new photographic exhibit captures the stunning beauty of local and B.C. mountain ranges from the
perspective of some of our province's earliest artists and mountaineers. Mountain Light: Photos from the
BCMC Collection now showing at the North Vancouver Museum and Archives, on West 4th St. in
Vancouver, shows some of the best images taken by some of the most outstanding photographers from the
British Columbia Mountaineering Club since it was created in 1907. More/LIRE PLUS
Museum explores outer space
Winnipeg Free Press Share/Partager
Thanks to a brand-new exhibit at the Manitoba Museum, ordinary citizens will have an opportunity to go
where only eight Canadians have gone before - outer space. The museum will be home to Living in
Space, an interactive exhibit produced by the Canadian Space Agency. Scott Young, manager of science
communications at the museum, said the purpose of the multimedia exhibit is for people to explore the daily
challenges of living in a world of weightlessness. More/LIRE PLUS

North Sydney Heritage museum open this winter
Cape Breton Post Share/Partager
The North Sydney Heritage Museum in the Cultural and Heritage Centre will be open this winter, with
some assistance from Employment Nova Scotia. "We have Ruth Ann Gillis back with us," said building
manager Robert Hillman, who also oversees the day to day operation of the museum. "There has been
some demand for the Heritage Museum to be open. The past week it's been very busy, which is good to
see." More/LIRE PLUS
Royal B.C. Museum plans major expansion, high rise
Peninsula Daily News Share/Partager
The Royal British Columbia Museum, just two blocks east of the MV Coho ferry dock, expects to unveil a
new master plan by next September and finish a major redevelopment of its 6.6-acre property in time for
Canada's sesquicentennial in 2017. No costs or plans are in place on the project, although new zoning
would permit towers of 12 stories and 14 stories - and some existing buildings that now house such
features as the National Geographic IMAX theater might come down. More/LIRE PLUS
