Spring Break Adventures at the Fraser River Discovery Centre
New Westminster, BC - Hey mums and dads, are you looking for something fun
for the kids to do during Spring Break? Then don't look any further. The
Fraser River Discovery Centre is presenting two fantastic programs that
offer fun ways for families to discover the world around them. Join us for
an afternoon of adventure at one, or both, of this year's popular Spring
Break programs.
On Saturday, March 3, from 12:00 to 3:30pm, children (ages 5 to 8) and their
parents will have an opportunity to connect with plants, just in time for
the gardening season ahead. With their botanists' notebooks in hand,
families will enjoy a guided tour of the Discovery Centre's Plants Alive!
exhibit where they will conduct plant experiments and record their findings.
Challenge your plant knowledge to see if you can identify plants through the
smell they emit or the shape, size and colour of the seed just before you
cover it with soil for your windowsill garden at home.
On Friday, March 23, from 1:00 to 3:30pm, wrap up Spring Break with a fun
hands-on guided tour of the Discovery Centre's newest exhibit the Discovery
Zone. Perfect for children ages 5 to 12, together families can learn about
the Fraser River White Sturgeon that lives on the Fraser's muddy bottom, or
excavate through a simulated archaeology dig to uncover amazing stories
about the river. At our popular Pollution Model take action to keep our
rivers and streams clean as you learn first-hand how and what pollutes them.
Complete your tour with a National Film Board short film "Journey of the
Blob" in the Canyon Theatre.
Both drop-in programs make a fabulous outing for families and are a
wonderful opportunity to explore the Fraser River through play. Families
are encouraged to allow a minimum of one hour to enjoy all the fun
activities that these two programs have to offer. Admission is by donation.
These two programs make great group tours and will be offered throughout
Spring Break. So if you are a group leader or run a daycare and are looking
for something new to do with the kids visit our website at
www.fraserriverdiscovery.or <http://www.fraserriverdiscovery.or/> for
dates, times and further information.
