Celebration at the border

The Osoyoos & District Museum and Archives participated in a recent annversary event by Canada Border Services Agency, celebrating 150 years of the Port of Osoyoos. The first customs post was built at the head of Osoyoos Lake in late fall of 1861. The event on December 10, 2011 was held at the modern customs facility on the 49th parallel. Over 60 invited guests including a descendant of the first customs officer, Johnn  Carmichael Haynes, were in attendance. Ken Favrholdt, Curator of O&DMA, provided an illustrated lecture on the history. As well, the museum had a small display of artfacts.
