An imaginative and timely theme with four important historical examples. Well done!

Hello from the Hope Museum ... could I ask that you please put this on the BCMA listserve for me ?
These are our plans for Heritage Week 2012
As the theme of Heritage Week 2012 is Energy in British Columbia - A Powerful Past, a Sustainable Future, we at the Hope Museum are doing research into four aspects of power and energy heritage in the Hope area.
First, we are exploring the building of the pipelines in this area. In 1953 Trans Mountain laid the final portion of their Edmonton to Vancouver oil pipeline through the Coquihalla Valley. Then in 1957 a natural gas pipeline was laid, which in 1979 was expanded to serve growing demand. In light of the conversations dominating the news about the Enbridge and Keystone Pipeline proposals, it is interesting to contrast the public opinion and reaction towards these 1950's pipeline projects.
Second, we are researching the building of the Wahleach Power Station by the BC Electric Company (now BC Hydro). In December 1952 the project was officially opened, providing approximately 14% of British Columbia's power. Today, thousands of motorist speed by this power station located along Hwy #1 between Hope & Chilliwack and give it nary a thought.
Third, we are interested in the conflict surrounding the proposed building of the High Ross Dam in Washington State. The High Ross Dam would have flooded approximately 5000 acres of the Skagit Valley and as a result the ROSS (Run Out Skagit Spoilers) Committee was formed to save the valley. After more than twenty years of battling, in April 1982 it was announced that the Skagit was safe from flooding. This was one of the first major environmental battles fought over competing land use interests in British Columbia.
Fourth, we are looking at Run of River projects in our region and fact that the Fraser River remains a completely wild river even though a number of hydro-electric projects have been proposed (namely the Moran Dam near Lillooet which was under consideration between the 1950's and the 1970's).
When we have all our info together we will be working with our local newspaper, The Hope Standard, to run a series of 5 articles in the 5 editions in February (one a week) + we are putting a display into the Hope Library for the entire month of February 2012.
The Hope Museum has encouraged public participation in our research by running letters to the Editor in our local newspaper and by interviewing long time residents that were involved with these projects. We have also been in contact with BC Hydro and Kinder Morgan to request information and photographs related to these topics.
Anyone that has any further information on these topics is asked to forward it to the Hope Museum - contact information is listed below
