You should contact non-profit media arts centres in Vancouver-- for example, both Western Front and VIVO Media Arts, have 1" playback decks and cleaners for their archival collections of videotape. They both also have a lot of experience in transferring old format videotape material to different storage platforms.
Contact:
Western Front: Technical Director Ben Wilson, benwilson at front.bc.ca<mailto:benwilson at front.bc.ca> or the Media Arts Curator Sarah Todd, sarahtodd at front.bc.ca<mailto:sarahtodd at front.bc.ca> or
VIVO Media Arts: Emma Hendrix / General Manager<mailto:tech at vivomediaarts.com> admin at vivomediaarts.com<mailto:admin at vivomediaarts.com>

I have a message I've been asked to send out on behalf of the Sunshine Coast Museum and Archives. If it could be sent out on the list serve, we'd be very grateful. Please find the text pasted below. Thanks in advance.
Cheers,
Don Hauka

The Seacam Project Committee of the Sunshine Coast Museum and Archives is looking for a functioning SONY EV-310 1" Videocorder to view archival videotapes. Some of the footage is thought to be among the earliest underwater video recorded on the West Coast. The committee would like the use/loan of the videocorder with an eye to transferring the tapes to a digital format. There are several models which would suit our needs. What we need would have been manufactured in from about 1965 to 1975 and would have been in service to as late as the 1990s.
If you have any vintage Sony video tape players that you might consider loaning, please contact us. We have technical personnel who are experienced with vintage electronics who would treat loaned equipment with care and respect. We would also appreciate any information on a tape cleaner suitable for very old one-inch video tape.
For technical specifications on the SONY EV-310, please follow this link:
